Nutrition 101nutrition101img1.jpg - Health Promotion

Nutrition is the process of providing or obtaining the right food necessary for growth and health promotion.
If you were offered a used car to fix, or a brand new car- which would you choose? Our bodies need to be feed the proper nutrition and taken care of so that it doesn’t need to be “fixed”. Good Nutrition is the route to preventing the onset of health problems, diseases and major conditions.

The aim is for everyone to look after themselves for now and in the future and help prevent early health problems. Poor choice of food can be the cause of many illnesses from depression, anger to heart disease and degenerative problems.

So what makes us go for these foods?

If we know about the foods that are 'bad' for us, why do we still eat it? Of course that is why at Green Nectar we offer Nutrition and Fitness information online so that you can get emotional support and encouragement, right here and right now.

Macro-nutrients

Macro-nutrients are the basic food types that we all know and make up your diet. They are usually needed in high quantities as opposed to micro-nutrients. Macro-nutrients can be defined as the fuel for our bodies and the carriers of nutrients.

  • Carbohydrates
  • Protein
  • Fats
  • Fibre
  •

    Micro-nutrients

Micro-nutrients can be thought of the nutrients contained within the macro-nutrients, so they complement each other. The nutrients are mainly in in the form of vitamins and minerals, which provide the body with the elements its needs in small amounts to function efficiently and keep the body balanced.

    Daily Health Guideline

We need food to help our body function properly.

    • For heat and energy
    • For growth and repair
    • To help regulate the body processes

Sugars, starches and fats provide the body with warmth and energy. Sugars and starches are known as carbohydrates which supply a big percentage of energy to the human body.

    • Sugars: Cakes, pastries, jams, honey, sugar, syrup, fresh and dried fruit.
    • Starches: Potatoes, cereals, bread, flour and pastries.
    • Fat: Lard, butter, margarine and oil.
    • Fibre: Wheat and Grain.

However, It is not a simple as just eating the one kind to get what you need as foods generally contain elements of all four but its the knowledge of what to pick and at what time which keeps you healthy.

Our online cooking recipe library helps put good health food (organic where possible) into easy steps for you to create quick easy and healthy meals.

We have also complied a few healthy Eating Guidelines that are intended to promote your overall health while reducing the risk of developing poor nutrition related diseases like cancer and heart diseases.
