Water
Water is the ultimate health drink and is recommended that you need to drink 1.5 to 2 litres of water everyday.
Living in heavily populated areas such as London where pollution is high, water will help to clear toxins out of the body. It is recommended that all water should be filtered and bottled water should be bought as a last resort in order to reduce the carbon footprint.
Why Drink Water?
• The body is basically two thirds water, so water is needed to keep you hydrated. • The body losses 2.8 litres of water a day through urine, the skin and breath and concentration. • The body takes water by metabolising food, which averages around 1 litre a day. • The body requires water to eliminate toxins efficiently without putting undue stress on the kidneys. Prolonged strain will lead to kidney stones, behavioural problems, nutrient deficiency. This also comes from drinking large amounts of fizzy drinks and fruit juices. • Water should be drunk at room temperature as that is when the body will absorb it into its system.
Why filter tap water?
Tap water contains significant levels of aluminium and nitrates, lead and chlorine and probably more (all are anti nutrients). Approximately a quarter of all British tap water contains impurities (some at levels above maximum admissible concentrations set by the E.U).
In achieving our ideal consumption of water what other liquids would assist us?
• Diluted Juices (cordial) • Herbal and fruit teas. • Most types of fresh food do contain water that the body can withdraw water from. If you find yourself hungry but you can't decide what you want, your body is craving water. Have a drink instead of food! • Tea, coffee, milk and carbonated drinks do hydrate to a certain extent, but disrupt your blood, sugar balance. Some of the ingredients found in these drinks can put a stress on your body and as consequence dehydrate and rob you of minerals through doing this work. Sugary drinks provide calories but very few nutrients.
